Toney Volunteer Fire Dept. held a live burn training exercise with Harvest VFD also participating.  Evolutions included fire control, fire behavior, thermal imager training and roof ventilation.  Roof cutting was performed using our new Vent Master Saw.  The saws were purchased by a grant awarded by CAS Inc.  This was our first chance to work with the new saws and everyone was impressed by the quick cuts that were made.  Thanks to all who attended and a big thanks to one of our citizens who provided pizza for lunch.  We also greatly appreciate the donation of this house for this valuable training.

11.03.08 Fire Prevention at Madison Cross Roads School

Toney Volunteer Fire Department along with Madison County Communications personnel taught fire prevention and education to the students at Madison Cross Roads Elementary School.  Students were instructed about the dangers of fire, what to do in case of a fire in the home, making sure to have smoke detectors along with other valuable information.  In addition, the children were able to see a real fireman in full gear including an air pack to hopefully ease a child's fear of the way the firefighter looks and sounds.  Students were also given a tour of the fire truck.  As always our goal is to prevent fire and protect our community pro actively.

10.29.08 Fire Prevention at Best Beginnings

Toney Volunteer Fire Department provided fire prevention education for the children at Best Beginnings Day Care at Murphy Hill Baptist Church.  Students were able see the fire truck and all of the equipment plus a real fire fighter with all of his fire fighting gear on.  The students favorite, however, was Sparky the fire dog.  We would like to thank Best Beginnings for the opportunity to visit with them again this year.

10.27.08 Toney Fire Recognizes an Act of Bravery
Members of Toney VFD awarded a certificate of bravery to Joshua Ray for his actions during a kitchen fire inside his home.  A smoke detector, which was given to him by our department during fire prevention last year, alerted him and his grandmother to a fire on the stove.  Joshua was able to bring the fire under control with a fire extinguisher before he and his grandmother exited the residence.  Joshua was recognized in the Huntsville Times newspaper and will also be submitted for national recognition through his Boy Scout Troop.  Commissioner Dale Strong could not attend, but sent a letter commending Joshua for his actions as well.  The smoke detector that Joshua received from our department was provided through a grant awarded to the Madison County Commission.
