Toney Volunteer Fire Department hosted a multi-company training at a house on Will Raby Rd. Harvest, Monrovia and Bobo Fire Departments attended. 04.11.08 Live Fire Training on Caroline Road

Toney Fire Department conducted a live fire training exercise Friday night.  Due to the condition of the structure, interior training was not feasible.  Nevertheless, there were many opportunities for instruction and training during the burn.  Thanks to those who participated.

04.05.08 Multi Company Training on Will Raby Road

Toney Volunteer Fire Department hosted a multi-company training at a house on Will Raby Rd.  Harvest, Monrovia and Bobo Fire Departments attended, along with  Madison Fire who provided a crew to assist with instructing.  Firefighters circulated through 8 different stations which provided hands on training.  Thanks to all of these dedicated volunteers who gave up a Saturday to attend this training.

RIGHT HAND/ LEFT HAND SEARCH - Instructed by Nick Williamson (Harvest), Darrell Bell (Toney), and Stacy Harraway (Madison) -  (assisted by Brennan Bell and Minnie Mouse).  Firefighters searched for Minnie Mouse while having their hoods pulled over their eyes to simulate zero visibility.  Minnie was rescued by each crew.

METER PULLING - Instructed by John Penny (Toney) and Jay (Madison).  Firefighters were instructed on proper electrical meter pulling technique and each person physically removing the meter.

BREACHING SHEETROCK - Instructed by Tim Lyon (Toney).  Firefighters were instructed and performed easier and energy saving techniques when removing sheetrock walls and ceilings.

HOSE ADVANCEMENT - Instructed by Tim Westwick and Andrew Wright (both of Harvest).  Firefighters practiced proper hose streams, advancing hose lines through the inside of a structure, hose placement and nozzle selection.

GROUND LEVEL VENTILATION - Instructed by Matt Comstock (Toney) and Pete Mehok (Madison).  Firefighters were put into a real smoke environment where a hose line was used for ventilation as well as a PPV.

PPE / SCBA - Instructed by Stephanie Bell (Toney) and David Beach (Monrovia).  Firefighters performed correctly putting on their turnouts and air packs while being timed.

CHIMNEY FIRES - Instructed by Tray Hunt (Toney).  Firefighters learned techniques to fight chimney fires.

03.18.08 Forcible Entry & Fire Suppression Training

One of our wonderful residents in the Toney community has donated a very nice house to the department for training.  The house has two floors with multiple bedrooms.  TVFD has had two sessions so far.  The last training was at night using a burn barrel for smoke to simulate fire suppression and forcing entry through an exterior door.  TVFD will continue to train in the coming weeks ultimately burning the house down for the owner.  Thanks again for this unique opportunity for training.

02/16/08 - Hose Testing and 5 inch Hose Training

Toney Volunteer Fire Dept. began testing our new 5" large diameter hose.  This hose was purchased through a federal grant and will replace our current hose which is 3" in diameter.  5" LDH will allow for a much greater amount of water use during fire operations.  Also, this was used as an opportunity to train firefighters in the use and characteristics of this size of hose and fittings.  TVFD will continue its training in the coming weeks with this hose as all of the engines are outfitted.

12/18/07 - Thermal Imager Training

Toney Fire received delivery of 2 new thermal imagers that we were able to purchase through our picture drive fundraiser and community donations. These thermal imagers will greatly improve our methods of performing numerous tasks, i.e. fires, wrecks, missing persons. We conducted a training session for orientation of the device and to get comfortable with different uses.
