03.30.08 Structure Fire Helton Ave.

TVFD was dispatched to a working structure fire early Sunday morning with Hazel Green VFD second due.  First arriving firefighters reported smoke inside the residence.  E-214 arrived and two pre-connects were stretched to the structure.  Firefighters determined the fire was inside the wall behind the kitchen cabinets.  A small amount of fire was also visible on the exterior of the home.  Some sheetrock was taken down while outside siding was removed and the fire was contained to a small area.  Cause of the fire is under investigation.

03.25.08 Structure fire on Stilwell Drive

TVFD along with Harvest F.D. was dispatched just before noon for a structure fire with possible entrapment.  First units on scene reported smoke and flames showing, with all occupants out of the house.  Firefighters made entry through the front door and located the fire in a second floor bedroom.  The fire damage was contained in the interior to that bedroom, but there was heavy smoke damage throughout.  There was also damage to the exterior of the home in the rear and a wooden fence.  Thanks to Monrovia, Harvest and Bobo F.D.'s for their assistance.  Also, a big thanks to Rick and Andy with HEMSI Medic 12 for their help until additional manpower arrived.

03.09.08 Vehicle Fire on Highway 53

Toney Fire responded to a reported vehicle fire near gasoline pumps.  C514 arrived first and reported the vehicle fully involved but not threatening any pumps or structures.  Firefighters made quick work of the fire, but the vehicle was a total loss.

03.02.08 Grass Fire Threatens Two Structures

Toney VFD was dispatched to assist Bobo and Hazel Green VFD's for a field fire threatening two structures.  Through the efforts of all three departments the fire was brought under control and both structures saved with minimal damage.  However, a dog was located inside one of the structures during a primary search.  The dog appeared to have been living in the abandoned structure, but seemed to be in good health.  The animal was taken to a safe location temporarily and the proper authorities were notified.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

02.28.08 Mobile home fire with fatality

Toney Fire along with Bobo VFD responded to a reported structure fire at a mobile home.  The first Toney unit on scene reported the structure was heavily involved.  E214 arrived first and firefighters immediately deployed lines to begin fighting the blaze.  Also of major concern was a large propane tank at the back of the structure that was being threatened by the fire.  Firefighters made forcible entry through the back door to begin a primary search of the home.  Neighbors stated that there was a strong possibility that someone might be inside.  The primary search was completed up to a collapsed roof finding two deceased dogs.  Sadly, units outside the structure who were still fighting fire, located one victim and another dog at the end where the roof had collapsed.  Thanks to combined efforts of both departments the fire was effectively brought under control and authorities began their investigation as to the cause of the fire.  Toney VFD extends its heartfelt sympathy to the family during this time of sorrow.

02/08/08 - Multiple Vehicle Fire On Highway 53

Toney Fire was dispatched to a grass fire involving multiple vehicles.  First units reported approximately 15 vehicles on fire as well as the field fire continuing to spread.  Bobo fire was requested to assist and the grass fire was cutoff and contained.  Firefighters were then able to concentrate on the vehicles.  Heavy smoke conditions due the close proximity of the cars to one another made for difficult visibility but despite the conditions firefighters quickly put the fires out.  The cars were wrecked former police cars and were a total loss.

2/6/08 - Basement Fire on Ready Section Road

TVFD was dispatched along with Bobo Fire, just after daybreak, for a possible structure fire.  The caller reported smoke inside the residence.  First arriving firefighters found heavy smoke in the basement.  Due to the smoke and heat conditions coupled with a large amount of stacked material stored in the basement area, the fire was initially difficult to locate.  But, with the help of one of our new thermal imagers, the fire was located in the storm shelter and extinguished before it could spread to other parts of the house. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
